2. Many False Messiahs

While he was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples approached him privately and said, “Tell us, when will these things happen? And what is the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”

Jesus replied to them, “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and they will deceive many.”

Matthew 24:3-5 | cross ref: Mark 13:3-6 and Luke 21:7-8.

Prophecy Fulfilled from AD 44 to AD 1994

Over two dozen individuals have claimed to be the Messiah of the house of Israel over the past 1,900 years. They represent a wide variety of Jews from many different areas, but all of them have one trait in common – they were wrong. The first false Messiah to rise after this warning from Jesus was Theudas in AD 44, who gathered a large following of believers and led them to their deaths. As of September, 2025, the most recent false Messiah was Menachem, who died in AD 1994, after amassing an estimated 200,000 followers.
